So, you know you don’t like it? Its gross. That’s nasty. Ew. What is it? It tastes like crap.
…..
oh really? Have you TRIED it? Chances are, probably not. But, oh, you know you don’t like it. Thats for sure!
….
I’m really frustrated today. Like, I’m mad. I got in an argument with a kid in my class, because I said McDonald’s “pink-slime Mc”Chicken” Nuggets” were gross. (sidenote: he knows I am vegan). He argued with me about it for a long time. I told the class that aside form the fact that McDonalds nuggets are supposedly “all white meat”, the killing methods are horribly cruel. I proceeded to say that I eat Gardein frozen faux meat. I was bombarded with comments such as the ones listed above. I asked, “Well, have you even tried it? How can you knock something if you havent tried it?” Of course people responded, especially the boy who started the argument with me, that theres no way he would even consider trying something that starts with “faux”.
…
So, what I eat is gross? Hmm.. And what you eat isn’t? You consume BLOODY red meat cooked med rare-rare. You’re eating blood dude. Thats not gross? Taking a big bite of some juicy bloody steak, that some cow went through total abuse for, and having blood dripped form your mouth, somehow thats not gross? Your right. I want some juicy red beef to dunk into some A1 sauce right now. Or, eating chickens that are pumped with antibodies, whose muscle develops at such a rate that they cannot even stand up, because their skeletal system is to weak to hold their enormously large breasts. Oh yes, let me eat artificial chicken! Maybe a chicken salad!! Or, eating pork or bacon from a pig that was locked in confinement and often are weak and sick as a result. MMMM. Actually, you know what sounds really good? I think I will have some fish for dinner. Yeah, its loaded with mercury. I heard thats good for you. Sounds tasty!! (Hint: sarcasm folks)
Ew. Im nauseated, honestly, just thinking about it. I dont understand for the life of me, how someone can think thats not gross. But, my food however, is.
Little tid bits, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the product Gardein. First of all, if you’re vegan, you should absolutely give it a try. Okay, so basically they offer meat substitutes, and you can find these in the cold, or frozen section of a Whole Foods Store. It is a blend for Garden + Protein..=Gardein. Clever. Going with the rule of thumb for ingredients labels, the first ingredient is the most abundant in the product. Gardein’s Chipotle Lime Crispy Fingers… Ta da: WATER. Oh but come on people, water, is so gross. Next ingredient: Soy protein. Wait, this would actually mean that vegans eat protein, that supposedly is people’s number one reason that they “have to eat meat”! Do you want to know how much protein is available in a serving of this product? 16 grams of Protein. In TWO crispy fingers. Not to mention it has, ZERO cholesterol. ZERO. Only contains 1 gram of sugar. and its only 170 calories. Additionally, zero trans fat. Anyways, third ingredient is wheat gluten. Fourth is canola oil. Fifth is organic ancient grain flour, ie quinoa or millet.
Rest of the ingredients: natural flavors, vegetable gum, yeast extract, potato starch, sea salt, organic cane sugar, pea protein, carrot fiber, oranic beetroot fiber.
I am telling you. You could replace this as a chicken nugget and no one would be able to tell the difference. Especially considering that all chicken nuggets are processed and dont look like chicken to begin with.
My pending question then, is how can people truly think thats gross!!!!! Its all normal, healthy stuff! Doesn’t it bother you in the slightest bit to look at a label and not be able to identify what the hell you’re eating? That’s gross. That’s alarming. That’s disgusting. Not my faux meat!
Ah. Sigh. I’m still mad, but that does feel better. Now, I at least hope someone reads this so I can feel like I got my point out to someone out there. I may piss some people off, but oh well. I suppose people who eat meat could come back and rebuttal with whatever they so choose. But, at the end of the night I know that what I am doing is helping other, the planet, and the animals, and that is more then they can say.
